Singita Boulder’s LodgeNovember 6, 2017
Singita Boulder’s Lodge is said to be one of the best safari lodges in all of South Africa. Located in the Sabi Sand private game reserve next to the famous Kruger National Park, it’s the perfect place to find an abundance of wildlife. The hotel is renowned for having top-notch rangers and spotters, so you’ll be sure to see The Big 5 during your stay on the twice-daily game drives.
(*Disclaimer: Our safari guide is not holding a dangerous rifle in the photo above. It’s actually a tranquilliser dart gun that would only be used to protect safari-goers from the highly unlikely event of an animal attack. It cannot and will not kill an animal! South Africa is very respectful of it’s wildlife and does everything in it’s power to protect it.)
To begin, let’s talk about the jaw-dropping grounds at the Boulder’s Lodge. The property is breathtaking in it’s own right, but the individual rooms (or should I say “bush suites”) are what make the lodge so special. There’s a strong sense of intimacy since there are only 12 suites in total, and each one is spacious, luxurious, and tailored to perfection. They all come with mosquito-netted beds, double-sided fireplaces, outdoor showers, jacuzzi bathtubs, and large outdoor terraces complete with infinity pools that overlook the watering hole. Oh, and it’s not uncommon to have animal encounters right there on your private sundeck. During my stay, a few of the resident monkeys made an appearance from time to time. The suite next door actually had a leopard come to their sun deck for his afternoon snooze! I was also lucky enough to spot elephants, water buffalo, and hippos each day drinking from the watering hole all from the comfort of my own heated plunge pool.
Next, lets talk about the restaurant. There’s really only one thing I can say and it’s that THE FOOD IS INCREDIBLE. It’s amazing how such a remote place can have the freshest ingredients on a daily basis. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us and any food concerns we had since the menus were a bit adventurous. They included things like ostrich meat and springbok (wtf), but since I am a vegetarian the chefs went out of their way to prepare a separate menu just for me for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My very own menu with my name on it and everything… how nice is that?! And the menu was completely different every day so that I had options to choose from.
After an eventful morning exploring the bush, there’s nothing like getting back to the hotel and enjoying the amazing spa. Hands down, I had the best massage treatment I’ve ever had at Boulder Lodge and I don’t think I’ll ever have a better one. Guests have the options for a massage out on a private deck, in a spa suite, or in the comfort of their own bush suite. Half day and full day packages are also available upon request.
All the staff at the lodge are incredible and I hope to go back and visit them again soon. They made the experience that much more memorable. Overall, there are no real words to describe Singita Boulder’s Lodge. It’s something that must be seen to be believed. It definitely gets the Ostrich Approval!
