Grand Hotel Tremezzo

May 15, 2018

The palatial Grand Hotel Tremezzo is oozing with traditional Italian opulence.  On the shores of Tremezzina directly facing Bellagio, it’s location is perfect for exploring every inch of Lake Como.  Just one hour’s drive from Milan, the hotel is easily accessible and even offers an airport transfer service on request.  The amazing staff works hard to maintain the family-run aspect that make guests feel truly special and part of the family.

All of the rooms at the hotel are decorated with elegant sophistication.  The decor is traditional Italian with modern touches throughout.  The bathrooms are large with gorgeous marble finishing and some rooms have balconies that overlook the gardens or the lake.  All doors  open with a big old-school key which is a nice change from the standard modern key-card entry.  The top floor of the hotel, known as the VIP floor, has 8 large suites that come with a 24-hour personal butler service.  Each suite is exceptional in it’s own way with large private terraces equipped with private jacuzzis and deck chairs.  All of which boast exceptional vies of the lake, of course.

The grounds of the hotel are tremendously kept.  The expansive gardens are plush and immaculate while the trendy beach remains effortlessly cool.  There are 3 pools at the hotel.  One is the famous floating pool that jets out into the lake, another is at the back of the hotel nestled in the gardens, while the third is an indoor infinity pool located in the T-Spa the overlooks the lake.  The spa offers private treatments rooms including a hammam suite, a sauna room and a yoga studio.  There is also a fitness center and a tennis court behind the lovely gardens.

There are 4 restaurants on site.  The Terrace restaurant is where breakfast is served each morning.  The breakfast food is typically Northern Italian with a selection of cold cuts, cheeses, pastries, breads, yogurts and fresh fruits and juices.  There is an omelet station and a waffle station and let’s not forget about the selection of Italian coffees.  The Terrace turns into a Michelin-starred restaurant at night where guests can dine with panoramic views of the Lake.  The menu changes depending on the season produce but chef Gualtiero Marchesi always gives a tribute to the flavors of the local area.  There’s another restaurant in the hotel for a slightly more casual dinner called L’Escale.  It specialises in fondue, raclette and wine in a very unique setting that’s carved into rock.  There’s a very trendy Beach Restaurant out front in which guests are welcome to reserve a sun lounger before having a seat at the bar or one of the tables for a delicious fresh lunch.  Lastly, there’s a Pizza Bar located behind the hotel in the gardens with large wood-fired ovens to cook up deliciously fresh pizzas.   The beach bar is open until sundown but every evening there is a Pianist at the main bar where guests can sit on the terrace and enjoy an aperol spritz at sunset.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo offers various experiences for their guests to make the most of their time on Lake Como.  There are lake excursions on the hotel’s private water limousines, water sports on offer like skiing or kite surfing, and there’s the option to rent a small boat to explore the lake on your own time.  For the lake excursions, there are two Venetian motor launches to choose from- one named Ruy and the other named Batt.  The excursions can be organised for tours of around the lake to explore the towns scattered around and see the luxurious private villas around the lake including George Clooney’s.  The hotel can also organise photography tours, walking tours, or private dinners in a villa for an extra romantic evening.

From the private beach and floating pool to the opulent gardens and pizza bar, there is nothing not to love about this place.  The friendly and helpful staff make it easy to navigate the lake and offer recommendations for venturing outside of the hotel too.  Overall, this place gets the Ostrich Approval.  The Grand Hotel Tremezzo is not to be missed on a visit to Lake Como. Ciao Bellas!
