Après-Ski In Megève

October 31, 2017

The best part about a ski trip is the après-ski.  After an eventful day on the runs, there’s nothing better than relaxing at a slope-side restaurant or better yet, pounding down drinks in all your gear at the top of the mountain.  The only thing to remember while partying on the mountain is that you still have to ski back down to town afterwards!

Megève’s selection of après-ski is phenomenal.  There are a number of restaurants scattered around the slopes to stop for lunch.  You could take the main ski lift to the highest part of the mountain, ski halfway down to a restaurant to have lunch, then ski the rest of the way down after.  Most of the restaurants have outdoor terraces so you can enjoy being surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

My favourite for après is a little place called La Folie Douce.  It’s the most famous venue for après in all of France and has other locations in Val-D’Isere, Val Thorens and Méribel.  Imagine an outdoor club situated on one of the highest peaks in the French Alps with a DJ blasting music and people in ski boots spraying champagne from their table tops.  And they even have a cabaret show against the mountain backdrop with dancers, singers and musicians to liven things up.  It is insaneeeee and probably the coolest party I’ve ever been to.  Skiing down the mountain afterward is always extremely difficult for me after all the booze I consume, but it is all worth it. Every. Single. Time.  I look forward to coming back to Folie every year.

After the mountain fun, there are always plenty of options for further partying.  In Megève, there are loads of bars in the town centre and scattered throughout.  You can either go back to your hotel and quickly change, or stay as is and keep dancing in your ski gear.

For dinner, there is a restaurant called Le Torrent located in the town square that I highly recommend.  The cozy atmosphere is still buzzy and the food is great.  But the restaurant that you must visit is located in the hotel that I stay in, Les Fermes de Marie.  It is called Le Restaurant Alpin and the fondues on the menu are absolutely to die for.

There aren’t many nightclubs in Megève, but a place I recommend going for cocktails is to the trendy bar in the hotel Lodge Park, also located near the town centre.  For late night fun, there is a jazz club called Le Cinq Rue that turns into a serious dance party after midnight.  But the one place for the best night party in all of Megève is non other than the restaurant Stefano Forever.  It’s a cabaret spectacle from Saint-Tropez with enough energy to get everybody in the room up dancing.  They have a stage for performers and a “backstage” area with a collection of costumes to encourage their guests to dress up, sip champagne and have loads of fun.
